You know the way things come in threes? Well, it turns out they don’t. Humans look for patterns in random data to extract order from disorder. We can often end up searching for revelation in delusion. That said, it is extremely helpful for us to spot patterns, as long as we don’t take it too far and develop feelings of abnormal meaningfulness, often called apophenia.
