Shortly after his ordination as a priest in 1975, Father Peter McVerry was assigned to the north inner city. Living and working in the deprived area of Summerhill, he witnessed poverty and homelessness first-hand.  He wanted to do something about it beyond his priestly duties and, in 1979, set up a small hostel for homeless teenagers in the area. The Arrupe Society for Homeless Young People morphed into a charity in 1983, providing housing and support services for the young and homeless as McVerry made it a lifetime mission to help those in need.  Now known as the Peter McVerry…
