Eight years ago, back in late 2016, Ireland was roughly five years into a severe rental shortage in its main cities. Having risen by five per cent in 2012, rents in Dublin rose by 10 per cent the following year and by a further 13 per cent in 2014. While rental inflation dipped in Dublin in 2015, it accelerated elsewhere and by the second half of 2016, pretty much everywhere was seeing double-digit rent increases.
