Delivered late last month, the Court of Appeal issued a judgment awaited with bated breath by all in and around the lucrative commercial peat sector. The three-judge panel was tasked with examining an appeal brought by one of the country’s leading peat companies, Harte Peat, against a 2022 High Court order granting an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) injunction which blocked it from extracting peat on a key bog complex in Co Westmeath.
