In 2019, Intel was granted planning permission for a new multi-billion euro chip fabrication lab at its Leixlip facility in Co Kildare. The nearly completed lab will double the tech giant’s manufacturing capacity in Ireland. As part of the construction phase at the campus, a section of the R148 connecting Leixlip and Maynooth was also realigned to minimise the impact of the major work. Intel is now reinstating the road but with some significant enhancements. This includes plans to change the existing roundabout at the intersection of the R148 and R449 in front of its campus to a new T-junction. …
