RTÉ’s final spend on reports into recent controversies tops €1.1 million

The Government has also spent over €500,000 on reports to examine governance, culture and accounting practices at the broadcaster. This brings the combined total outlay to over €1.6 million.

New figures released by the Government reveal RTÉ spent €1.1 million on external reports into the controversies that engulfed the broadcaster over the past year.  Three reports commissioned by the audit and risk committee of RTÉ’s board from Grant Thornton examined payments to Ryan Tubridy, the use of the barter account system and opaque decision-making around the failed Toy Show The Musical. A further review of staff exit packages, including a controversial severance package for a high-earning executive, was carried out by McCann FitzGerald at the request of RTÉ’s new director general Kevin Bakhurst.
