The European Court of Justice (ECJ) decision in the Super League case was not a surprise. Artificial restrictions on trade in the single market are not compatible with EU law and the ECJ has ruled accordingly.  It follows that football clubs in Europe are free to play in whatever competitions they wish to arrange between themselves.
