Farmers are getting it tight. A drought in June, too much rain in July, a difficult harvest season, rising costs and high levels of debt. A new Farmers Alliance plans to be a new political voice for farmers and rural communities. As I write, farmers’ organisations are protesting outside parliamentary party think-ins in objection to the ending of the nitrates derogation by the EU.
