I have been watching the trend toward increasing protectionism for some time now. Protectionism happens when domestic producers are helped out by governments in some way, either by impeding or limiting, as by tariffs or quotas, the importation of foreign goods and services, or by banning them, or by making them harder to access.    Globalisation, defined as the increased interconnection of markets for people, capital, and ideas, has not recovered since the 2008 crisis. Trump and Brexit can be read as backlashes to globalisation, particularly as migration flows changed. Then COVID reminded the world that we are dependent upon one another…
